Organization Facts
- Founded at Boston University on November 2, 1909 by Warren A. Cole.
- Spiritual founder and author of initiation ritual was Dr. John E. "Jack" Mason.
- Merged with Theta Kappa Nu Fraternity in 1939.
- First Fraternity to abolish the pledge process in 1972.
-First Fraternity to take a stand against and abolish hazing.
- Replaced pledging with Associate Membership. Associate members have rights just as brothers do; they can wear letters, hold office (except High Phi - Ritualist), and vote on all matters not pertaining to ritual. In addition, AMs meet with the rest of the brothers, and never have a "pledge class meeting."
- Open mottoes: Vir Quisque Vir (Every man a man), Per Crucem Crescens (Crescent through the cross), Kalepa Ta Kala (Naught without labor)
- Philanthropy is the North American Food Drive
- True Brother Initiative: LDRSHIP (Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Service & Stewardship, Honor, Integrity, Personal courage)
